The further expansion of wind energy is of crucial importance for achieving the climate targets in Germany and worldwide. In Germany alone, 31,109 onshore and offshore wind turbines are currently installed. It is hard to imagine that so many conventional wind turbines will be installed within the next 25 years. By changing the support structure of a wind turbine from the conventional bending-stressed design to a compression and tension-stressed structure, a mutational leap in wind power utilisation is possible, so that, for example, ten conventional 7MW wind turbines can be replaced by a single wind turbine with an alternative support principle.
The design task is to design and construct the support structure of a guyed mast and alternatively a hyperbolic self-supporting lattice shell, each as a rotating system.
